Cycling Adventures: Stories from the Road – Nov 2024

Every cycling tour tells a story—of challenges conquered, bonds formed, and the sheer magic of exploring the Philippines on two wheels. Here are three heartwarming and inspiring tales from our past tours:

A Fiesta in the Hills of Palawan

It was Day 3 of our Palawan tour, and the group was tackling the steep climb from El Nido to a remote village perched in the hills. The tropical heat was intense, and sweat poured as the cyclists pushed through the switchbacks. Just as they reached the summit, they were greeted by the distant sound of drums and laughter.

The group discovered a village fiesta in full swing—complete with a lechon (roasted pig), traditional dances, and colorful decorations. The locals waved them in, offering cold drinks, freshly cooked food, and a front-row seat to their vibrant cultural celebration.

What started as an exhausting climb turned into one of the tour’s most cherished moments. The group danced, shared stories with the villagers, and left with full hearts and new friendships.

The Hidden Waterfall of Leyte

On a Leyte tour that included Kalanggaman Island, our guide surprised the group with a detour through a forest trail. After 20 minutes of rugged riding, they arrived at a secluded waterfall tucked away from the main road.

The cascading water created a natural pool surrounded by lush greenery, and the group eagerly jumped in to cool off. One of the cyclists, Anna, a first-timer, was especially moved. “I’ve never done anything like this before,” she said, standing under the falls with her arms outstretched. “This is pure magic.”

The group spent an hour there, soaking in the beauty and serenity, before continuing their journey. For Anna, it was the moment she realized that cycling wasn’t just about the destination but also about the unexpected treasures along the way.

A Father-Daughter Bond in Bohol

One of our Bohol tours welcomed a unique pair: Mike, a seasoned cyclist, and his daughter Lucy, a college student who was new to the sport. They had signed up to explore the Chocolate Hills, Panglao Island, and Loboc River.

At first, Lucy struggled to keep pace, but Mike stayed by her side, offering encouragement. As the days passed, her confidence grew. By the time they reached the Chocolate Hills, Lucy was leading the pack.

Their proudest moment came on the final day when Lucy said, “Dad, let’s race to the beach!” They sprinted the last stretch, laughing and cheering each other on. Later, as they relaxed by the ocean, Mike shared, “This trip wasn’t just about cycling—it was about reconnecting. I couldn’t be prouder of her.”
